Kane’ohe Bay is protected from open ocean swell and current by Oahu’s only barrier reef, which makes it perfect for paddlers of all ages and ability levels!  This barrier reef has allowed marine life to flourish and as a result, Kane’ohe Bay contains some of the most stunning snorkeling that you can experience on the Hawaiian Islands!

  • Enjoy free parking on site at the State Park.
  • Restrooms, rinse only showers, and changing rooms are at your disposal at the State Park.
  • Your kayaks and equipment are set up right on the water’s edge, ready to go, no need to drive or drag your kayak anywhere!
  • You are directly contributing to funding He’eia State Park through this nonprofit program, so feel even better about your kayak experience!

 Availability

Monday-Saturday: 8:00am-5:00pm. All rentals must be returned no later than 5:00pm.

Closed on Sundays and Federal Holidays.

Restrictions

No infants. Ages 3+. All participants must be able to fit in at least a 30-50 pound life jacket.

Basic swimming ability required.

Our tandem kayaks have a weight limit of 500 pounds.  If either paddler exceeds 250 pounds, it is not recommended to go in a tandem kayak with another person, even if the combined weight does not exceed the weight limit.  For paddlers of 250 pounds and above, it is recommended to use a kayak set up for solo paddler configuration.

Although Kane’ohe Bay is the flattest, safest, most protected bay on Oahu, the level of difficulty and challenge here can vary, mainly based on local wind conditions.  The direction and strength of the wind on any given day will determine the experience, skill, and comfort level needed to reach different destinations.  Check with our staff and know before you go!
